KRUG ROSÉ: EVERY YEAR, A NEW ÉDITION OF THE FIFTH GENERATION’S DREAM
Krug Rosé is an unexpected rosé Champagne combining elegance and boldness – inspired by the dream of the fifth generation of the House of Krug to conceive a rosé Champagne that did not exist, a rosé Champagne that could be re-created every year.
KRUG ROSE IN ESSENCE
Krug Rosé 26ème Édition is a blend of 28 wines from 7 different years, the youngest of which is from 2014, while the oldest dates back to 2005. It was completed with 11% traditionally macerated Pinot Noir of the year blended from plots in Aÿ and Taissy, to add a unique spiciness, colour and structure. Its final composition is 44% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and 26% Meunier. A stay of at least seven years in Krug’s cellars gives Krug Rosé 26ème Édition its unique expression and elegance.
THE STORY OF ITS CREATION
Krug Rosé 26ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2014, an erratic year in Champagne that oscillated between hot dry spells and cool rainy periods. Vines developed under good conditions, ensuring a generous harvest. The contrasting weather preserved freshness and resulted in great heterogeneity throughout the region, underscoring the importance of the House’s plot-by-plot approach. To craft the final creation, plots’ wines of the year, which included chiselled and elegant Chardonnays from the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims, and a very special Pinot Noir from Sacy, which stood out for its brilliant redcurrant notes, were blended with selected plots’ reserve wines from 6 other years, including unctuous Chardonnay wines from 2006 to impart roundness. In all, reserve wines from the House’s extensive libra
KRUG ROSE IS UNIQUE
Krug Rosé expresses a broad palette of plots’ wines with fruit characters of all types, and spicy notes with astonishing breadth and depth. A perfect tango with savoury dishes, Krug Rosé replaces a good red wine at the table with brio. The Édition number corresponds to the number of times in the House of Krug the fifth generation’s dream has been re-created. It also serves as a reference for collectors, to enjoy it later. As with all Krug Champagnes, Krug Rosé 26ème Édition will continue to gain with the passage of time. The full story of every Édition is revealed online via its Krug iD, the six digits on the back label.
TASTING NOTES
At first sight, its subtle pale pink colour holds a promise of elegance.
On the nose, aromas of rose hips, cured ham, mulberries, redcurrant, peony, pepper and pink grapefruit.
On the palate, delicate flavours of honey, citrus and dried fruit with a long finish, enhanced by its fine bubbles complete the experience.
FOOD & WINE PAIRING INSPIRATION
Unexpectedly, Krug Rosé 26ème Édition best accompanies very savoury dishes. It can be enjoyed with fois gras, lamb, game, white meat, venison or even dishes with spices. Krug Rosé is not recommended for desserts, unless they are not sweet at all.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
96 points, Decanter
"An exotic, bright and freshly crushed raspberry nose, which persists. Icing sugar and cracked cashews. A gorgeous cascade of stewed fruits, spice and rhubarb in the mouth. An exhilarating and fine wine. A fruit lolly note, but refined and smokily luxurious too. Red wine from different plots in Aÿ, Bouzy and Mareuil-sur-Ay. The rosés are selected from more mature fruit and therefore need fewer components to express the priority of pure berry intensity. Candy and sweet notes on the end. Main harvest: 2014. 35% reserves. Aged for almost seven years on lees. 11% red wine used in the blend. Disgorged: Early 2021."

"Based on the 2014 vintage, complemented by some 33% reserve wines from six other vintages, Krug's new NV Brut Rosé 26ème Édition is showing beautifully, offering up aromas of tart red berries and plums mingled with notions of warm biscuits, dried fruits, flowers and orange zest. Medium to full-bodied, taut and incisive, with terrific concentration, racy acids and a long, penetrating finish, it's an intensely flavored, electric wine that stands out as a particularly good recent release from this storied house."

"The soon to be released Krug Rosé “26ème Édition” is from the base year of 2014. Given the long history of Maison Krug, sometimes it seems impossible that this beautiful bottling of Rosé has only seen twenty-six renditions. The blend this year includes one-third of reserve wines, running back to the 2005 vintage. The cépages is forty-four percent pinot noir, thirty percent chardonnay and twenty-six percent pinot meunier and the wine is once again its very pale, salmon color. It offers up a beautifully refined nose of tangerine, white cherries, wheat bread, chalky soil tones, a touch of citrus peel, gentle notes of brown spices and a discreetly smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is young, full-bodied and displays excellent depth in the mid-palate, with elegant mousse, lovely focus and grip, bright acids and a long, complex and very well balanced finish. Fine, fine juice, but this is still a puppy and deserves at least a few years in the cellar to blossom."

"Like an orchard on a warm day, this leads with enticing floral and ripe fruit aromas. On the satiny palate, flavors of baked nectarine, white cherry and raspberry are pure and juicy, layered with rich notes of chopped macadamia nut and brioche, pickled ginger and candied blood orange peel, lime blossoms and chamomile. Finely tuned and harmonious, this is a mouthwatering version, with the flavor range expanding through to the long, lasting finish."
