BORN FROM NATURE

The launch of a new vintage of Dom Ruinart is always quite an exceptional moment. It is the most accomplished expression of a great Blanc de Blancs. Since the release of the first Dom Ruinart cuvée in 1966, only 27 vintages of Dom Ruinart have been presented to the public.

The year 2010 is characterized by a very cold winter, an early summer and a rainy August. During the base wine tasting after harvest, the oenological team realized the 2010 chardonnay was marked with an intense richness and showed the promise of a great vintage.

For Dom Ruinart, the Maison only selects chardonnay from exceptional terroirs, mostly grand cru.
90% of our chardonnays are chosen from the Côte des Blancs (Le Mesnil-sur- Oger, Avize, Chouilly & Cramant), the heartland of this variety, with easterly exposure; and the other 10% are from the north-facing Montagne de Reims, particularly the grand cru sites of Sillery, the Maison’s historic vineyard.

GUIDED BY INTUITION

Dom Ruinart 2010 marks a turning point.
In her quest for excellence, the Maison decided to push the ageing of the wine further, to unlock more layers. For this cuvée, the oenological team had the idea of bringing back cork during the ageing process. An intuition that has been validated over the years and during the tastings. During a maturation of 10 years, the cork brings a woody side to this vintage. In the nose as well as on the palate, one can smell the aromas of grilled almond and coffee.

There is in this vintage the aromatic freshness so characteristic of Ruinart. Combined with time, it expresses itself here with even more depth and aromatic complexity. More than any other cuvée, it celebrates savoir-faire of the people at the heart of each bottle.

THE CHALK WRAP

In 2020, Ruinart revolutionised its packaging with the new "Second Skin" case, which replaced the unitary boxes. This sustainable innovation required two years of research and development.

Dom Ruinart’s chalk wrap offers a new interpretation of this innovation. Velvety soft to the touch like chalk, with its gentle reliefs and crevices crisscross, as if carved directly into chalky rock.

A hand-applied gold marking enhances its exceptional character. The discreetly engraved 1729 on the fastening button indicates the heritage of Maison Ruinart, the world’s first champagne House.

CRITICAL ACCLAIM

WW95, Wilfred Wong of Wine.com

"COMMENTARY: The 2010 Champagne Ruinart Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Extra Dry is about precision. TASTING NOTES: This wine excels with aromas and flavors of wet stone, chalk, and savory spices. Pair it with steamed razor clams in a light black pepper and garlic broth. (Tasted: July 14, 2022, Menlo Park, CA)"

WS95, Wine Spectator

"A mineral-driven Champagne, creamy and compact, this deftly meshes a layer of smoke, chalk and saline with detailed flavors of glazed apple and apricot, roasted hazelnut and ginger-infused pastry cream carried on a raw silky mousse. The fine texture softens the firm spine of chiseled acidity that structures the wine, and hints of white blossoms, Meyer lemon and oyster shell play on the finish."

JS94, James Suckling

"Almost like a white, with a smoky and flinty nose. Dried lemons, cedar, smoked almonds, spiced apples, hazelnuts, salted butter and toast. Tangy and sharp, yet creamy and buttery, too, with fine bubbles. Hazelnuts at the end."
