"R" de Rieussec is produced on the Chateau Rieussec estate, a Sauternes Premier Cru Classe.
It is partly produced from the same vines as the Sauternes.
20% of fermentation takes place in barrels. This technique enhances the wine's potential to age, while preserving its freshness and the natural fruitiness from the grapes.
Powerful, harmonious nose with notes of citrus, mango, and other exotic fruit. The direct, energetic attack on the palate presents the same exotic, fresh character. The wine presents plenty of volume and good harmony. The buttery notes from the barrel-ageing have a definite presence and will quickly become integrated to give the wine more complexity. The finish is backed up by a pleasant acidity.
93 points - Decanter
"This is extremely good quality. It's a delicious wine full of flavour, bright and crystalline with a beautifully crisp colour and more Sauvignon Blanc than usual. The harvest was spread out over three weeks because earlier hail had meant uneven ripening."
93 points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"Composed of 75% Sémillon and 25% Sauvignon Blanc, the pale lemon-gold colored 2018 Rieussec slowly unfurls to offer fragrant orange blossoms, honeycomb and candied ginger scents with a core of lemon marmalade, baked pears and spice cake, plus a hint of preserved citrus peel. The palate is light on its feet with zippy freshness lifting the well-knit sweetness, finishing long with a skip in its step. If not a truly profound vintage for this label, it is a beautifully elegant and bright expression."
92 points - James Suckling
"A tangy and dry white wine with sliced apples, lemons and light honey character. Medium body. Melon flavor. Lemon undertones."
