Aged between 12 and 16 months in French oak barrels, "Le Chateau" is a fine Medoc red that is both intense and bright. When young, the Loudenne Médoc has a deep crimson color, a strong, complex nose with notes of dark fruits (cherries, blackberries, blackcurrants), toast, and more delicate notes of vanilla. Some vintages also have elegant, fresh notes of mint. The wine is dense, concentrated, and fruity on the palate with a pleasant tannic structure, a full body, and a long finish. It is a wine that has both an excellent aging potential and tannins that are pleasant enough to be enjoyed while it is still young. As it ages, the fruity aromas disappear and are gradually replaced by the sophisticated aromas of sous bois. The wine becomes more complex and its tannins more velvety.

The 2016 vintage is characterized by mild but very rainy periods in winter (January, February), which favored a rapid growth of vegetation. The cool spring slowed down the development of the vine. July and August were cool and regularly watered, with sometimes hot spells over a few days. Beautiful sunshine in September and stable weather over several weeks allowed us to get the grapes to ripen well. The North Médoc and Loudenne were spared from the corridor of rain and storms which struck Saint-Estephe and Pauillac.

Critical Acclaim:
89 points - Wine Enthusiast
"After new investment and new owners, this estate is beginning to regain its former glory. This wine is rich, structured with a mineral texture from the deep gravel of the vineyard. It will develop well. Drink from 2022."
