About the Wine:
Chateau La Gaffeliere has a deep history; they're one of the oldest family owned vineyards dating back as far as the 1400s! The Estate didn't start producing wine until the 17th century. This Gothic styled Chateau had built a reputation as one of the finest producers in all of St-Emilion by the 18th century. The vineyards of this prestigious Chateau are planted to 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. Chateau La Gaffeliere is one the premier producers in St-Emilion who's wines display great energy and structure capable of aging 30+ years!

Born in 1985, Dame is produced mainly from the young vines. The 2018 is blended using 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. It is a "wine for pleasure" that can be enjoyed in its youth along with 10 years of aging potential. La Dame is harvested and produced according to the high standards set forth by the first label: pruning, cover, de-leafing, green harvest, hand-picking. In the cellar, the same technical process sets the pace for successive stages of vinification. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes:
The nose exudes aromas of ripe blackcurrants, licorice, and wild herbs, leading on to an expansive palate displaying rich black and red fruits supported by silky smooth and almost seamless tannins.

Critical Acclaim:
94 points Wine Enthusiast
"This is the second wine of classed growth Chateau la Gaffeliere. Dominated by Merlot, the wine has weight as well as a rich, velvety texture supporting the powerful black fruits. As befits a second wine, this should develop relatively quickly and generously."

91 points James Suckling
"A juicy and savory young wine with berry and tobacco character. Some chocolate, too. Medium body and firm, silky tannins."

90 points Jeb Dunnuck
"The second wine of the estate, the 2018 La Dame De Gaffeliere is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. It has exactly what you want from a second wine and is plush, up-front, and delicious, with lots of red and black fruits, dried herbs, spice, and subtle wood-like aromas and flavors. This medium-bodied, rounded, textured, fruit-forward beauty can be drunk any time over the coming decade."

90 points Vinous
"The 2018 La Dame de Gaffeliere has a very elegant and pure bouquet with red cherries, wild strawberry, rose petal and just a faint touch of liquorice. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and well judged acidity. This feels harmonious and focused. Discrete mineral notes emerge towards the finish. This is a well-crafted and quite delicious Deuxieme Vin. Recommended, especially for those unable to grab the marvelous Grand Vin"
