70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Monastrell. El Nido (“The Nest”) is made from vineyard parcels of very low-yield Cabernet Sauvignon (29 acres) and Monastrell (79 acres) aged 75-95-years-old located at about 2,300 feet in elevation. The head-pruned bush vines are planted in poor rocky limestone and sand soils in a hot, dry climate that encourages optimal ripening of concentrated and complex berries. Bunches are hand-picked and transported in small baskets to the winery where they undergo a second selection on the sorting table. Parcels are fermented and aged separately for 24 months in new French and American oak barrels (60%/40%).
Glass-staining purple. Explosive, alluring scents of blueberry, boysenberry, pipe tobacco, licorice and vanilla bean. Lush and broad yet juicy and firm with suave candied dark fruit flavors accented by floral and spice notes. The finish is broad, juicy and impressively long with echoing boysenberry and spice notes.
