TASTING NOTE

In the glass, the 2018 Q Red Blend is a deep, ruby red color with a vivid purple hue. Aromas of high tone black fruits, maraschino cherries and brown spice are pronounced. The blueberry and red fruit notes are accented by notes espresso and brown spice. The wine is juicy and plush on the palate with blackberry, tea and spice notes evident. The velvet tannins are mouthcoating and leave and almost chocolate note on the long, juicy fruit finish. This wine is incredibly approachable and delicious now but will show well for the next 10 years at minimum.

VINTAGE

The 2018 growing season started with abundant rains, followed by a bright spring and early onset of summer. Both bud break and flowering occurred later than usual, but under ideal weather conditions. This created plentiful and beautiful, even fruit set. Summer brought generous sunlight hours during the day with cooling marine influences, virtually uninterrupted by any major heat spikes. The relatively mild, long summer was followed by an extended fall with moderate heat and no rain, creating near-ideal conditions to allow fruit extended hangtime. This extended vineyard time allowed fruit to develop deep complexity and a gradual increase in sugar levels. Harvest began for red varietals in early October and lasted through mid-November. Overall, the 2018 crop increased by approximately 20-30% coming in with beautifully concentrated color and flavor making wines of outstanding quality.

BLEND

75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Petite Sirah

CRITICAL ACCLAIM

JS93, James Suckling

"This shows lots of spice, berry and walnut character. Currants, too. Medium to full body, tight tannins and a vibrant finish. Needs time to open, but nicely crafted and balanced. Cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, petit verdot and malbec. Drink after 2023."

WE90, Wine Enthusiast

"Leading with 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine also has small amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Formerly known as Quantum, it delivers bold, full-bodied flavors of plum, blackberry and currant, with sticky tannin and sweet oak, burly and layered in style."
