Varietals: 40% Sangiovese, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Syrah
Vineyards: Castello Banfi's estate located in the southern part of Montalcino. The soil is stony, calcareous, well-structured and drained.
Winemaking: The 3 varieties are vinified separately. After alcoholic fermentation, the individual wines are transferred to French oak barriques and aged separately for 12-14 months. They are then blended and aged in wood for 10-12 months. Bottle aging follows for 6 months.
Color: Intense and deep red.
Bouquet: Conveys sweet and fruity aromas of cherries and plums, well-integrated with notes of vanilla and licorice.
Taste: Very elegant and balanced with a beautiful structure, supported by muscular and persuasive tannins. Lingering flavors fill the palate. Perfect for long aging.
Food Pairing: Marries well with red meat, stews, hearty pasta dishes, and cheese.
RP94, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"This is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. The Castello Banfi 2016 SummuS is a child of a very happy vintage in Tuscany. This wine shows depth and persistence with loads of dark berry and blackcurrant along the way. The wine shows a moment of thinness at the mid-palate, but it then fleshes out, ultimately offering more volume and texture on the close. You can't really make out the grapes in the blend, but together they offer a classic portrait of your quintessential Tuscan red wine."
WE94, Wine Enthusiast
"Aromas of dark skinned berry, cedar and cassis mingle with whiffs of violet and French oak. On the elegant, structured palate, tight, fine-grained tan"
