THE BALVENIE TUN 1509 BATCH #8 SCOTCH WHISKY

The Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 8 showcases malt master David Stewart MBE's experience in marrying rare casks and is the final instalment in the prestigious Tun 1509 series. Made with a selection of 18 casks - four ex-bourbon barrels, six second-fill sherry butts, five refill puncheons and three first-fill sherry butts - that have spent three months in a traditional marrying tun. Aromas of freshly-baked lemon tarts, homemade marmalade, maple syrup and sweet marzipan fill the nose, complemented by notes of rich toffee, creamy vanilla, wild honey, toasted oak, crystalised ginger and cinnamon throughout the palate.

To create the much-anticipated The Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch No. 3 - which will be limited to just 8,850 bottles worldwide - Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE drew on his extensive knowledge and expertly hand-selected 31 of the finest casks from the distillery's precious aged whisky stocks. He used 12 sherry butts distilled between 1989 and 1992, 11 American oak hogsheads distilled in 1989 and eight refill American Oak butts distilled in 1992 and 1993.

All were transferred to the single marrying vessel, which for several months sat in Warehouse 24 before bottling. This is a rare interpretation of the marrying process, allowing all 31 casks to come together in a unique expression of The Balvenie that's greater than the sum of its constituent parts.

One batch of this rare single malt whisky is bottled each year and The Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 1 was launched in 2014.
