Just opposite Notre Dame de Reims Cathedral lies a unique plot of one hectare surrounded by tall protective walls, that dates back to the 18th century: Clos Lanson.

Situated on top of the hill where the House of Lanson and its wine cellars are also located, Clos Lanson benefits from a distinctive microclimate and particularly chalky soil. The vineyard is treated just like a family garden due to its small size and the special care and attention that it has always received.

The vines of Clos Lanson have always been a favourite of the House's owners and are visited daily by the Wine-Maker. In order to carry on the Lanson family spirit, every year the men and women of the house help harvest this precious plot, selecting only flawless, quality grape bunches for the production of Clos Lanson Champagne.

This bottle has all the attributes of a very fine chardonnay that has benefited from a controlled fermentation in wooden barrels and optimum development in the House's Cellars. In the glass, the wine is a pale golden colour with a fine stream of bubbles. It has a wide range of delicately woody aromas where ripe fruit intertwines with notes of butter, vanilla, patisserie and hazelnut, punctuated with a dash of smoke. The palate is rich, with concentrated fruit flavours combined with toasted, biscuity notes. The finish remains fresh, with an impressive length of flavour reflecting the noble origins of the grapes.

"Produced from a small walled vineyard close to the Lanson winery in Reims, this is a splendid wine. Its richness is balanced by the intense freshness and minerality of the Chardonnay, with apple and citrus flavors that still in the background. Now mature, this wine is ready to drink. *Editors' Choice* (RV)

"The 2007 Clos Lanson was disgorged in July of 2016, after more than eight years aging sur latte. This is the second iteration of this bottling to be released, made from a tiny parcel of vines right out behind the winery in the heart of Reims, with the inaugural vintage having been the 2006. The 2007 Clos Lanson was given a very modest dosage of three grams per liter and allowed an additional year of cellar aging to recover after its disgorgement prior to release into the market. The wine offers up a beautiful and very refined bouquet of apple, pear, fresh-baked bread, a lovely base of soil, discreet smokiness, almond and a gentle topnote of white flowers. On the palate the wine is pure, focused, full-bodied and very refined in profile, with a lovely core, elegant mousse, excellent complexity and a long, zesty and beautifully balanced finish. This is outstanding wine! (Drink between 2018-2040)"

"The 2007 Clos Lanson Blanc de Blancs Brut is 100% oak-fermented Chardonnay from the historic Clos in Reims that was aged on the lees in bottle for eight years and was disgorged as Brut Nature in July 2017. The wine has a light golden color and opens with a pure, complex and elegant bouquet of concentrated fruits intermingled with brioche, acacia, Turkish honey and almond flavors. Pure, fresh and elegant on the palate, this is a concentrated and juicy, creamy textured, highly finessed and vital Lanson with concentrated lemon flavors and a pure, salty, long and tightly structured finish. The 2007 is still lean and young but will benefit from further bottle aging. The moderate sweetness of three grams per liter is sufficient enough due to the ripe fruit and creamy texture that give a wonderful roundness. Total production: 7,990 bottles. Tasted in November 2017. (SR) 93+"

"Clos Lanson's 2007 Brut Blanc de Blancs is a very pretty, soft Champagne that can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring. Bright citrus and floral notes, along with soft contours, give much of its immediacy and sheer allure. Understated and classy, the 2007 will drink well for a number of years, but it is also remarkably giving and enjoyable today for a relatively young Blanc de Blancs. Although it is not super-complex, the 2007 offers quite a bit of freshness and character. An open bottle was still in great shape when I re-tasted it a few days later. Disgorged: July 2016. (AG)"

"Fragrant, featuring lime blossom and ground spice notes, this fine and creamy Champagne offers a broad range of lemon parfait, chopped hazelnut, spun honey and dried cherry flavors, underscored by chalky minerality. Elegant and well-knit, with a firm, focused finish. Disgorged July 2016. Drink now through 2030. (AN)"
