Ornellaia "L'Incanto" Bolgheri Superiore 2012 Red Blend Artist's Edition

The 2012 gowing season was characterized by an abundance of sunnt, dry weather; some rain did fall as well, but just before the harvest. The result was an even, consistent ripening processthta in the end pieldid generous, full-volumed wines that are remarkably appealing and seductive, with an overall character that we like to define with the word "L'Incanto" ('The Enchanted').

Swiss artist John Armleder was chosen to interpret this character for the 7th edition of the Vendemmia d'Artista art project. In each 6x75cL wooden case, one label decorated by the artist highlights the character of the Ornellaia 2012 vintage. The red color respresents the wine itself and the stylized "splash," a recurring form in Armleder's works, symbolizes the unique and unrepeatable moment in which the Ornellaia 2012 enchants our senses, suspends time, and leaves us in contemplation.

Ornellaia 2012 appears a deep ruby, and a remarkably beguiling bouquet boasts rich fruit and spice notes. The palate is well-rounded, full, and generous, with glossy tannis and a velvety texture. The 2012 has all the luxuriance that distinguishes Ornellaia's great vintages. It conceals this richness behind an expansive and magnificent structure which concludes in a long-lasting finish.

ROBERT PARKER: The 2012 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia lives up to the legacy of this important wine, thanks to its extreme intensity and its skillfully crafted bouquet. The excellent quality of fruit stands clear, despite the heat of the vintage, with pristine notes of dark cherry, exotic spice and chocolate. This expression of Ornellaia is composed of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. The results are nothing short of exuberant and this vintage will reward both those who decided to drink it early, as well as those who have the patience to wait. The only slight ruffle in this otherwise gorgeous presentation is the 2021 tannin that feels a touch aggressive. For that reason, its probably better to put the wine aside in your cellar. 94 Points. Drink: 2016 - 2034
