ALBERT BICHOT VOSNE-ROMANEE PREMIER CRU LES MALCONSORTS '12
Les Malconsorts is an exceptional Vosne Romanée. We are lucky enough to own 3.5 acres of this jewel, which is situated close to legendary vineyards (neighbouring "La Tache" and less than 400 metres from Romanée-Conti, less than 600 metres from Richebourg). Our vines, with the venerable age of 35 to 40 years are orientated East-Southeast on limestone rendzina soil.
As for all of Domaine du Clos Frantin's vineyards, it is essential to respect the terroirs. For Malconsorts, this means adapting to the specificity of a microclimate in which the grapes are harvested particularly early.
The name "Malconsorts" suggests that this land must once have been at the origin of disputes between mauvaisconsorts (bad partners), from the Latin word CONSORS meaning "associate, partner". These litigants would have had acommon interest in a case. The prefix "Mal-" would indicate that they conducted themselves inappropriately over landthat they owned jointly.
Colour:Limpid, bright intense and deep ruby red with violet reflections.
Nose: Fine and complex with primary delicate and discreet woody aromas. Notes of soft fruit followed by a spicy finale.
After a few minutes, subtle notes of peppermint and cedar will develop.
Mouth: All the crispiness of Pinot Noir with a very pleasant tannic texture which smoothly envelopes the palate. Powerfulbut silky tannins. Nice finale with a hint of liquorice. A promising future of complexity to look forward to on ageing.
Serving suggestions - With a meal, "Les Malconsorts" will voluptuously caress refined cuisine - almost sophisticated - which is not afraid of contrasts but which remains down to earth. Lasagnes with thinly-sliced duck filets and parmesan, rack of lamb withthyme, or scallop tagine with safran. The cheese platter should include mature Tomme de Savoie and aged Mimolette.
