Domaine Ott
domaines ott chateau de selle provence rosé 2020 1.5 liter (magnum)
$74.99
A subtle balance between structure and finesse, this wine is a perfect illustration of the precision required to make a rosé, the rigorous process that celebrates the flesh of the fruit and the very heart of the grape... The wine is a reflection of the complexity of its limestone hillsides and arid soil; austerity bathed in dazzling sunshine.
The Château de Selle Rosé combines various grape varieties from the Côtes de Provence appellation, including a majority of Grenache creating the delicate colour and vinous character. Cinsault adds softness, Syrah and Mourvèdre bring fruit.
TASTING NOTES
The wine is pale with a delicate pearly pink hue.The nose is precise and mineral, revealing aromas of peaches, apricots and vanilla, with undertones of passion fruit and a hint of lime peel. The palate opens with a refreshing attack then grows in power with yellow fruit aromas. The palate is perfectly balanced and ends with a slightly minty, saline and zesty finish.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
V93, Vinous
"Pale salmon skin. Mineral-tinged red currant, raspberry, blood orange and white peach scents are complemented by a suave lavender nuance that builds in the glass. Silky and penetrating on the palate, offering concentrated red berry and pit fruit flavors sharpened by a bitter suggestion of orange pith. Finishes very long and smooth, with repeating floral and pit fruit notes."
RP93,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"Pale and coppery as usual, Ott's 2020 Cotes de Provence Rose Chateau de Selle boasts restrained aromas of peach, melon and citrus underscored by hints of crushed stone. In the mouth, it's medium-bodied and concentrated, with ample intensity, a slightly creamy texture and a long, mouthwatering finish. Like the other top rosés of Domaines Ott, this is a wine that is often better in its second year."
JS93, James Suckling
"This is big on drinkability with light cherry, strawberry and peach aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, creamy and minerally with fresh, stony character. Vivid at the end. Another gorgeous Ott. Drink now."
W&S93, Wine & Spirits
"From the Otts’ original estate in Taradeau, the vines rooted in rocky limestone terraces surrounded by forest, this has an old school grandeur to it in 2020. Based on grenache, with cinsault, syrah and mourvèdre, it’s rich, smooth and peachy, seasoned with a touch of orange zest and herbs. The fruit’s ripeness is balanced by the crunchiness of the acidity, striking an addictive balance."
WE92, Wine Enthusiast
"The palest rosé color contrasts with a wine that is full of ripe flavors, of rich pepper and generous red-currant fruits. It is a full wine, packed with bold flavors and acidity in equal, balanced measure. "
