cuvaison ltd ed warhol series one set
It was the early 1980s, the scene, a dinner party in Heerbrugg, Switzerland, hosted by Alexander Schmidheiny -- who two years before had bought Napa Valley's Cuvaison winery. Proudly opening a bottle for an American guest, Pop artist Andy Warhol, Schmidheiny asked: "What do you think?" Warhol replied, "What a lousy label!"
Schmidheiny's wife and partner, Christina, recalled that Warhol accepted a challenge to design something better. But somehow the resulting 50+ labels were mostly forgotten in a drawer until now.
The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and Cuvaison celebrate this historic collaboration with this limited edition Andy Warhol by Cuvaison Collection. We are proud to offer you this first release in a series of three. The collector's box for Series One includes a bottle of Cuvaison's top Estate Chardonnay from Carneros and the best red Bordeaux blend from Brandlin Vineyard. Both wines are from the 2014 vintage and made exclusively for this collection. We are very fortunate to be one of the few retailers in the U.S. to offer this limited Series 1 of 3 to our top consumers. This series is perfect for high end wine collectors, gift givers, art collectors, and fans.
2014 Carneros Napa Valley Estate Chardonnay
The task of crafting our Andy Warhol Chardonnay demanded that we not only make our finest wine, a wine that's worthy of Andy's art, but a wine that is collectible and age worthy. Every detail in the vineyard and through the cellar was managed with this goal. Like the Polaroids Andy used to map out his vision of the label, we had specific sites within the vineyard to capture the extract, concentration, structure and flavors to make this wine as complex and long lived as possible. The hand-selected barrels focused on every element needed to stitch together the bouquet, flavor, opulence, power, acidity and intensity desired in the final blend.
2014 Mount Veeder Napa Valley Estate Red Blend
The vision for our Warhol Red Wine was too knit the wine together really from the outset. This meant not only the choicest rows of Cabernet from our famed O Block, but selecting vines within our Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet that would ripen in unison and co-ferment, creating a more seamless and intricate wine. The batches were tiny in size, just a few barrels each, but by keeping our eye on the long arc of the wine we could focus on the underlying elements that make an age worthy Cabernet. A precise balance of tannin, acidity and fully extracted fruit, yet layered with complex aromas and fine, supple tannins that will round out and expand with age.
