Chateau Carbonnieux red has for centuries been a great classic from the region of Bordeaux. With its high standard of quality, it is the smooth result of an excellent blending of grape varieties from this region.
The vinification, both modern and traditional of red wines, is carried out by slow and gentle extraction in order to preserve the roundness of the wine and the mineral features of the soil. The tannins are well balanced and silky in harmony with red fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry, cherry.) and reveal toasted notes from ageing in the finest quality French oak barrels. Only the very best batches tasted are selected for the final blending of Chateau Carbonnieux red wines.
Serving temperature : 18-19C
Cellaring advice : 6 years minimum
Wine and food pairing : all grilled, roast, or stewed meat, swordfish, tuna fish, cheese, chocolate desserts.
The nose is very fruity, we easily guess cherry, blackcurrent, and blackberry. This fruity freshness which is also present on the palate stimulates and lengthens the fine and velvety tannins. The finish is highlighted by shades of cloves and eucalyptus. The wine is well-balanced and silky.
Blend: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot
WS93, Wine Spectator
"This packs solid blackberry, red currant and boysenberry fruit paste flavors together, all inlaid with tar and licorice snap notes. A bold brambly edge infuses the finish with grip and energy. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2022 through 2035."
WE93, Wine Enthusiast
"The ripeness of this wine creeps up slowly to reveal swaths of black fruits and a densely tannic core. The wine is layered with acidity that balances the black-currant flavors. The wine will age well. Drink from 2023."
JS92, James Suckling
"This has attractively fresh and ripe, cassis and blackcurrant aromas. The palate has measured shape and a supple, fleshy feel with plenty of depth to the cassis and blueberries. Drink or hold."
JD92, Jeb Dunnuck
"The 2017 Château Carbonnieux is also more than a little impressive. This medium-bodied, balanced, elegant red gives up notes of cassis, spring flowers, and classy oak. It’s not massive by any stretch yet excels on its balance and purity."
