The Appleton Estate 17 Year Old Legend is made possible thanks to the brand's incredibly talented Master Blender Joy Spence. Joy faithfully re-created the J. Wray & Nephew 17 Year Old Rum using original recipes, bringing back the iconic and celebrated flavours that were said to have inspired the first Mai Tai in 1944.
Joy has been part of the Appleton Estate family since 1981 after joining as chief chemist. Later in 1997 Joy was named Master Blender, becoming the first woman in the spirits industry to hold this revered title. Since then she has combined the art and science of rum making to craft the Estate's premium rums for over 25 years, creating many of the brands famous blends.
